World No. 91 Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin capped an impressive campaign by defeating Singapore’s World No. 33 and top seed Jason Teh Jia Heng to claim his maiden BWF Tour title.

Aidil, who was competing as an unseeded player, secured the title with a commanding 21-16, 21-14 victory over Jason, having also defeated him in their previous meeting.

The triumph marked Malaysia’s first men’s singles title at the Vietnam Open since 2007, when Roslin Hashim lifted the crown.

Aidil had to come from behind in the Round of 64 and went on to overcome several seeded players on his way to the final. He remained unbeaten in straight games throughout the tournament except for the semi-finals, where he was taken to three games by Japan’s Minoru Koga.

Meanwhile, seventh seeds Chong Hon Jian-Wong Vin Sean ended their run in the men’s doubles semi-finals after falling to top seeds Chen Zhi Ray-Lin Yu Chieh of Chinese Taipei 17-21, 19-21 in 30 minutes.
