After an earlier rubber-set 20-22 21-19 14-21 loss in the mixed doubles to China fourth seeds Jiang Zhenbang-Li Yijing alongside partner, Low Yeen Yuan, Muhammad Haikal Nazri bounced back with a solid showing in the boy’s doubles at the World Junior Championships in Kazan, Russia.
Haikal together with Wan Arif Junaidi eased past 10th seeds Chen Zhi Ray-Cheng Kai Wen of Chinese Taipei 21-18 21-15 in just 28 minutes to step into the quarterfinals.
Joining them in the last eight are Yap Roy King-Gan Jing Err, Shaqeem Shahyar and Wyman Goh.
Skipper, Roy King put the upset defeat in the boys’ doubles yesterday firmly behind him through a nail-biting win over French duo of Kenji Lovang-Juliette Moinard 17-21 21-14 21-17.
In the boys’ singles, both Shaqeem and Wyman came from a game down to defeat #TPE Su Li Yang 13-21 21-16 21-14 and Jason Gunawan of Hong Kong 9-21 21-19 21-16 respectively.
In the girls’ doubles, Yeen Yuan-Valeree Siow went down in a three-set game 21-17 10-21 14-21 to 7th seeds Melani Mamahit-Tryola Nadia of Indonesia.
