It was a day of mixed fortunes for the national junior team at the World Junior Championships in Kazan, Russia.
The boys’ singles, boys’ doubles and mixed doubles saw all contingents advancing but it was all over in the girls’ singles.
K Letshanaa, Myisha Mohd Khairul, Arena Satu Samin and Tan Zhing Yi were defeated in the second round by 5th seed Han Qian Xi 14-21 8-21 Yasnita Enggira 14-21 16-21, Putri Kusuma 13-21 13-21 and Trisha Hedge 13-21 12-21.
Ching Kai Feng-Teoh Lexuan, Haikal Nazri-Low Yeen Yuan and Wan Arif-Junaidi-Valeree Siow qualified through comprehensive respective wins against Hugo Fernandes-Mariana Afonso 21-5 21-11, Safin Emran-Tuuli Vasikkaniemi 21-9 21-3 and Maxim Grin-Dana Danilenko 21-13 21-18.
In the boys’ singles, Kok Jing Hong, Shaqeem Eiman and Wyman Goh hardly broke sweat against opponents Pranav Gandham 21-16 21-13, An Yun Seong 21-15 21-6 and Lee Yoo Jun 21-14 21-13.
A trio of boys’ doubles pairs, Ooi Jhy Dar-Yap Roy King, Arif-Haikal and Kai Feng-Lwi Sheng Hao advanced to Round 3 with wins against Yash Raikwar-Iman Sonowal 21-12 21-16, Aliaksandrovich-Larushyn 21-10 21-12 and Safin Emran-Juuso Kuoppala 21-10 21-5.
Go Pei Kee-Teoh Lexuan and Yeen Yuan-Valeree meanwhile kept the flag flying in the girls’ doubles through respective wins over 9th seeds Dounia Pelupessy-Milena Schinder 21-11 21-11 and Madina Gadieva-Kunduzoy Ollaberganova 21-6 21-9 after teammates, Tan Zhing Yi-Gan Jing Err’s earlier loss to Ying Xue-Zhang Chi 13-21 16-21.
