The final day witnessed a clean sweep by BAM junior representatives, who dominated the podium by clinching all four U-16 titles on offer.

The all-BAM clash in the boys’ singles saw Chong Lee Qian overcome Ng Hao Tong in a three-set battle (18-21, 21-8, 21-11).

The victory has further inspired Lee Qian to work harder in training as he aims to achieve greater success in future tournaments.

“I’m happy to win this tournament. I’ll train harder to achieve better results in the future,” said Lee Qian.

Despite losing the opening game, he remained focused on every rally and successfully turned the match around.

“I think I was braver today in executing my skills and techniques against my teammate,” he added.

Similarly in the girls’ singles, Mirza Batrisyia was pushed to the limit by fellow teammate Chua Jing Xuan before prevailing in a fiercely contested three-set encounter (21-12, 14-21, 21-16).

Familiar with each other’s playing style, Mirza had to be particularly careful to avoid making unforced errors.

“I was nervous as both of us know each other’s gameplay very well, so it ultimately came down to who made fewer mistakes,” said Mirza after securing the title she had targeted.

Looking ahead to bigger tournaments, Mirza hopes to improve her consistency and reduce simple mistakes.

Meanwhile, in the boys’ doubles, the sole surviving BAM pair from the opening day completed an impressive run all the way to the title.

Teoh Chong Yee and Wong Tze Han emerged champions after defeating Selangor’s Foo Jin Tao Max and Yong Kiat Song (21-7, 21-14).

“I want to thank my coaches, parents and my partner for making this possible,” said Chong Yee.

Chong Yee shared how both players supported each other after a nervy start.

“I was a little nervous at first, so we supported each other and gradually took control of the match,” he explained.

Tze Han also credited their game plan and strategy as key factors behind the victory.

“Today we focused more on attacking play, especially in the opening three shots of the rally,” added Chong Yee.

Leong Hwee Ling and Teoh Min Yi captured their first title as a pair in the girls’ doubles, recording a convincing victory over Putrajaya’s Iffah Husna and Safia Ishraf (21-13, 21-10).

“We’re very happy as this was our first time partnering each other and our first championship together,” said Hwee Ling.

Min Yi revealed that their coach had reminded them to remain composed and adapt to the court conditions.

“Our coach reminded us to take it point by point, especially with the wind conditions in the hall,” said Min Yi.

As a doubles player, Hwee Ling also highlighted the importance of communication between partners.

“I think we need to communicate more often after this to further improve our game,” she added.
