The quarter-finals saw four boys’ singles players secure straight-set victories, while the girls’ singles contenders were pushed harder, with some needing three games to book their places in the semi-finals.
Ng Hao Tong extended his winning streak with a 21-13, 21-16 victory over Melaka’s Tan Jared, while Wong Yin Heng overcame Kedah’s Kieshen Sai Rao (21-18, 21-14). The two teammates are set to meet in the semi-finals.
Marcus Hang also delivered a strong performance to defeat Melaka’s Ho Jia Yu (21-18, 21-14), while Chong Lee Qian cruised past Pahang’s Lucas Yeo Zhou Jin (21-12, 21-14).
Marcus will now face Lee Qian for a place in the final.
“If I can perform well in my semi-final, then I aim to enter the final,” said Lee Qian after his quarter-final match at Stadium Juara.
Highlighting his confidence when making line-call challenges, Lee Qian stressed the importance of every point.
“Sometimes there might be a mistake from the line judge, so when I’m confident in calling for a challenge, I’ll go for it,” he said.
Looking ahead to his semi-final clash against his teammate, Lee Qian remains focused on delivering his best performance.
“If my strategy works and I can control the rally, I’ll gain more confidence,” he added.
In the girls’ singles, Mirza Batrisyia survived a tough encounter against Selangor’s Wong Yin Xuen, coming from a game down to win 16-21, 21-11, 21-11.
A similar outcome followed for Chua Jing Xuan, who battled hard to overcome Kedah’s Lau Xin En (16-21, 21-10, 21-19).
Jing Xuan admitted that nerves affected her performance in the opening game.
“My opponent’s style made it difficult for me to adapt. I wanted to finish the match quickly and ended up making a lot of mistakes,” she said.
The opportunity to reach this stage has motivated Jing Xuan to raise her level further.
“I want to perform better in my next match by improving my shuttle placement and reducing unforced errors,” she added.
Meanwhile, Annabell Gan produced another solid display to defeat Perak’s Low Hui Yein (21-12, 21-11).
In the doubles events, Teoh Chong Yee-Wong Tze Han and Leong Hwee Ling-Teoh Min Yi also advanced to the semi-finals.
