Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani are the new men’s doubles champions of the Arctic Open.
The Malaysian duo secured a thrilling victory over Denmark’s world No. 2 and defending champions, Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, with a 15-21 21-15 21-19 win after an intense one-hour, 12-minute battle at the Energia Arena in Vantaa, Finland, on Sunday.
This win marks the Malaysians' second triumph in nine encounters against the Danish pair, their previous victory being at the 2022 French Open.
The Arctic Open was Goh and Izzuddin’s third final of the year, adding to their impressive wins at the Japan Open in August and the China Open last month.
Meanwhile, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah narrowly missed out on the women’s doubles title after falling to world No. 2 Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning of China. The Malaysian world No. 7 pair lost 12-21 17-21 in the final.
This was Pearly and Thinaah’s third finals appearance of the year, following their Hong Kong Open victory and runner-up finish at the Korean Open in October.
