World No.18 Arif Junaidi–Yap Roy King gave Malaysia a strong start with a commanding 21–8 21–11 win over Australia’s Philip Halim–Landokh Kurniawan in men’s doubles.
In women’s singles, World No. 49 Wong Ling Ching continued the momentum with a comfortable 21–10 21–11 victory over New Zealand shuttler Amy Wang.
K Letshanaa battled hard but fell short against Thailand’s World No.14 Supanida Katethong, losing 18–21 21–16 18–21 in a tight three-game contest.
In mixed doubles, Jimmy Wong–Lai Pei Jing were unable to progress after a 16–21 18–21 loss to Indonesia’s World No. 11 pair J. Hidayatullah–Felisha Pasaribu.
Malaysia secured another win through World Champions Chen Tang Jie–Toh Ee Wei, who defeated compatriots Wong Tien Ci–Lim Chiew Sien 21–19 21–9 to advance.
In men’s singles, Aidil Sholeh earned a gritty 21–15 12–21 21–12 victory over compatriot Eogene Ewe after a determined performance.
Closing the day, World No.21 Hoo Pang Ron–Cheng Su Yin suffered a narrow 21–14 16–21 18–21 defeat to Australia’s A. Ramadansyah–Nozomi Shimizu despite a strong start.
