The Malaysian squad got off to a strong start, securing victories in all matches contested on the opening day of the Badminton Asia Championships 2026 in Ningbo.
The young national women’s pair of Low Zi Yu and Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan won both their qualifying matches against Macao’s Ng Weng Chi-Pui Chi Wa (21-11, 21-10) and Thailand’s Phattharin Aiamvareesrisakul-Sarisa Janpeng (21-9, 21-13).
Wong Tien Ci and Lim Chiew Sien also claimed a straight-games victory over India’s Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh (21-16, 21-15).
Meanwhile, Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai were tested in a hard-fought encounter against the Indian duo, who mounted a stronger challenge in the second game. However, the World No. 8 pair held their composure to seal the match (21-13, 21-19).
Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei rounded off the day with a straight-sets win over Japan’s Haruki Kawabe and Kokona Ishikawa (21-10, 21-19).
