World No. 4 Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei suffered a surprising defeat to Korea’s Kim Jae Hyeon and Jang Ha Jeong, ranked 118th in the world (19–21, 17–21).
World No. 2 Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan also bowed out after a straight-games defeat to the eighth-seeded Li Yi Jing and Luo Xu Min from China (13-21, 15-21).
Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik put up a relentless fight against Korean duo Kang Min Hyuk-Ki Dong Ju, pushing the match to a rubber game but eventually going down (19-21, 28-26, 13-21) in an 83-minute encounter.
Chia-Soh and Pearly-Thinaah will now shift their focus to the upcoming Thomas and Uber Cup, alongside their teammates.
