World No. 39 Justin Hoh gave Malaysia a 1-0 lead after defeating Moh. Zaki Ubaidillah 21-16 21-19. The advantage was doubled when world No. 18 pair Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King overcame Leo Rolly Carnando-Bagas Maulana 21-13 12-21 21-13 to make it 2-0.

Indonesia responded through world No. 45 Prahdiska Batas Shujiwo, who rallied past Eogene Ewe 12-21 21-14 21-15, before Raymond Indra-Nikolaus Joaquin edged world No. 33 Choong Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal Nazri 16-21 21-11 21-19 to level the tie.

With the score locked at 2-2, Malaysia’s Kong Wei Xiang went down to Indonesia’s world No. 62 Anthony Sinisuka Ginting 21-17 13-21 21-16 to seal a 3-2 victory for Indonesia.

Despite the narrow defeat, Malaysia advanced to the quarter-finals as Group D runners-up, continuing their campaign in Qingdao.
