#BATC2026 SOLID START FOR MEN’S TEAM, WOMEN’S TEAM QUALIFY AS RUNNERS-UP

In Group W, the Women’s Team went down 4-1 to hosts China. China took the opening point through Han Qian Xi, who defeated Malaysia’s World No. 37 Karupathevan Letshanaa 21-18 21-10. The hosts then extended their lead as Jia Yi Fan–Zhang Shu Xian claimed a 21-10 21-8 victory over Malaysia’s world No. 25 pair Ong Xin Yee–Carmen Ting.

China went on to secure the tie through World No. 127 Xu Wen Jing, who overcame Malaysia’s world No. 41 Wong Ling Ching 21-14 21-7.

Malaysia responded in women’s doubles as Low Zi Yu–Noraqilah Ramdan staged a comeback to beat China’s Luo Yi–Wang Ting Ge 13-21 21-18 21-17 to claim a valuable point.

The tie concluded with Oo Shan Zi falling to China’s Yuan An Qi 21-11 21-11, sealing China’s 4-1 win. Despite the loss, Malaysia progressed to the quarter-finals as Group W runners-up.

Meanwhile, the Men’s Team produced a dominant display to sweep Myanmar 5-0 in their opening Group D tie.

Malaysia’s World No. 39 Justin Hoh edged Myanmar’s Hein Htut 21-18 21-19 to set the tone in the opening match, followed by convincing wins from men’s singles players Eogene Ewe and Kong Wei Xiang to put Malaysia 3-0 ahead.

Malaysia’s first men’s doubles pair Aaron Tai–Yap Roy King overcame Myanmar’s Nyan Shaine Lin–Phone Htet Zaw 21-11 21-11 in just 23 minutes, before Choong Hon Jian–Haikal Nazri cruised past Phyo Thurain Kyaw–Lal Zuidika 21-9 21-7 to seal the final point.
