The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Chang Kim Wai as the Men’s Doubles Assistant Coach, where he will work alongside Head Coach Herry IP and Coach Miftakh to further strengthen Malaysia’s men’s doubles department. He is expected to report for duty on 4 November 2025.
Born in Perak, the 49-year-old was among the nation’s leading men’s doubles players during his competitive years.
A 2002 Commonwealth Games silver medallist, 2002 Asian Games bronze medallist, and a member of Malaysia’s 2002 Thomas Cup squad that finished with a silver medal, Kim Wai’s international experience brings valuable insight and leadership to the national setup.
In his new role, Kim Wai will assist in planning and executing high-performance training programmes, focusing on developing tactical awareness, partnership chemistry, and consistency among Malaysia’s top and emerging men’s doubles pairs.
“We are pleased to welcome Kim Wai into our coaching team,” said Rexy Mainaky, BAM’s Doubles Director. “His proven track record and deep understanding of doubles play make him a solid addition to the setup under Coach Herry. We believe this combination will help our pairs reach greater heights.”
Chang expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for the opportunity, saying: “It’s an honour to serve Malaysian badminton once again. I look forward to working closely with Coach Herry, Coach Miftakh and our players to achieve greater success for the country.”
