The opening day saw men’s doubles pair Azriyn Ayub–Wee Kiong take on England’s World No. 12 duo Ben Lane–Sean Vendy. Despite their best efforts to avoid becoming the third Malaysian pair to fall to the Englishmen, they were unable to turn the tide, going down 14–21, 13–21.
In the mixed doubles, Wong Tien Ci–Lim Chiew Sin fell 17–21, 17–21 to Thailand’s World No. 4 pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh–Supissara Paewsampran, marking their third defeat in as many meetings against the Thai duo.
Meanwhile, Man Wei Chong–Tee Kai Wun produced a commanding display to defeat Korea’s Kang Min Hyuk–Kim Dong Ju 21–9, 21–13 and advance confidently to the next round.
The tournament continues tomorrow with Malaysia’s top pairs - including Aaron Chia–Soh Wooi Yik and Chen Tang Jie–Toh Ee Wei - alongside other national representatives, set to take the court in pursuit of further success.
