Malaysia’s junior badminton squad concluded the German Junior tournament on a high note, bringing home a silver medal after a series of resilient performances.
From the quarter-finals through to the final, the national players showcased the technical growth that has become a hallmark of Malaysia’s junior programme.
Ahmad Redzuan and Zi Yu Low set the tone early with a clinical victory over China’s Wen Xin and Xiang Yu Jin, dominating the court to win (21–11, 21–8).
Meanwhile, Damien Ling and Irfan M. Shazmir faced a tougher challenge against China’s Lyu Xing Ze and Qi Rui Sun. The Malaysians showed great resilience to take the second game but fell in a hard-fought decider (13–21, 21–18, 15–21).
Lee Kay Xin went head-to-head with Japan’s Saki Matsumoto in the women’s singles but unfortunately suffered a narrow defeat (14–21, 22–24).
The semi-final stage saw Ahmad Redzuan and Zi Yu Low contest one of the most exciting matches of the week against China’s Feng Yi Lang and Li Yue Yu.
The duo held their nerve to win a marathon third game (24–22), sealing the match (21–16, 10–21, 24–22).
In the final, Ahmad Redzuan and Zi Yu Low once again faced Chinese opposition, this time taking on Zheng Wei Gang and Tan Ke Xuan. The Malaysians captured the opening game (21–17), putting themselves in a strong position.
The match remained a point-for-point battle until the end, with the final two games both going the way of the Chinese pair by the narrowest of margins (19–21, 19–21).
