The BWF World Tour Finals in Hangzhou got underway today with five Malaysian representatives in action, divided into Groups A and B.
In Group A, the World No. 2 pair Pearly Tan–Thinaah Muralitharan faced China’s World No. 4 duo, Jia Yi Fan–Zhang Shu Xian.
The 46-minute match went in favour of the high-flying Malaysian pair, who secured a straight-set victory over their Chinese opponents.
Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair in Group B, World No. 3 Chen Tang Jie–Toh Ee Wei, took on their fellow Malaysians and World No. 6 pair, Goh Soon Huat–Shevon Lai.
Living up to expectations, the third-ranked pair took firm control of the head-to-head record with a convincing 21–13 21–13 win, and will face a Japanese pair tomorrow in a bid to advance to the next round.
Action continued with Malaysia’s World No. 2 pair, Aaron Chia–Soh Wooi Yik, who overcame Indonesia’s World No. 9 duo, Fajar Alfian–Mohammad Shohibul Fikri, in a thrilling three-set battle, 22–24 21–18 21–19.
This was followed by Malaysia’s World No. 4 men’s doubles pair, Man Wei Chong–Tee Kai Wun, who went down to Indonesia’s formidable SEA Games 2025 gold medallists, Sabar Karyaman Gutama–Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, 21–23 19–21.
