Malaysian men’s doubles fifth seeds Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun knocked out compatriots Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong in the India Open first round with a commanding 21-16 21-15 win in New Delhi today.
In mixed doubles, eighth seeds Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai overcame Chinese Taipei’s Wu Guan Xun-Lee Chia Hsin 21-17 21-17 to cruise into the Round of 16, where they will meet Thailand’s Ruttanapak Oupthong-Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Wong-Lai Pei Jing outclassed Japan's Yuta Watanabe-Maya Taguchi in straight sets 21-10 23-21 and next will face either China’s Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping or Denmark’s Mads Vestergaard-Christine Busch.
However, Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin suffered an early exit after pushing the third seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh–Supissara Paewsampran from Thailand to a deciding game, eventually failing 21-17 16-22 20-22 in 57 minutes.
In men's singles, Lee Zii Jia lost 21-13 18-21 21-18 to Denmark's World No. 27 Rasmus Gemke.
The struggles continued in men’s doubles as Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi were ousted by India’s Hariharan Amsakarunan-M.R. Arjun 15-21, 18-21 while Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri lost to the Popov brothers, Christo and Toma Junior, 21-11, 21-19 in 36 minutes.
