Shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik showed their class by powering into the India Open men’s doubles quarterfinal.

The pair secured a commanding 21-9, 23-21 victory over Japan’s Takomi Nomura-Yuichi Shimogami in just 33 minutes on Thursday (15 Jan).

Joining them in the final eight are Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, who maintained their perfect record against France’s Christo-Toma Junior Popov.

The Malaysians extended their winning streak over the Popov brothers to five matches, coming from behind to win 13-21, 21-12, 21-14 in 54 minutes.

In the women’s doubles, Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah dominated their match against France’s Margot Lambert and Camille Pognante.

The duo took just 31 minutes to win 21-7 23-21 against France’s opponents. 

In the mixed doubles, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai bounced back from a set down to defeat Thailand’s Ruttanapak Oupthong and Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat, and  win 17-21, 21-15, 21-6 in 52 minutes.

However, it was the end of the road for Jimmy Wong-Lai Pei Jing, who fought valiantly against China’s top seeds Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping before falling 18-21, 21-17, 21-10.

While the men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin bowed out after a hard-fought 21-14, 17-21, 21-14 loss to Chinese Taipei’s Lee Jhe Huei-Yang Po Hsuan.
