The Indonesia Open 2026 got underway with five Malaysian representatives in action on the opening day, with two progressing to the Round of 16.
Mixed doubles pair Jimmy Wong and Cheng Su Yin, who stunned world No. 1 pair Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping at the Singapore Open last week, were unable to replicate that result, bowing out in straight sets (19-21, 18-21).
Azriyn Ayub and Tan Wee Kiong also exited in the opening round after falling to India's Hariharan Amsakarunan and Arjun Madathil Ramachandran (18-21, 10-21).
In the men's singles, Leong Jun Hao produced an impressive victory over Japan's world No. 11 Kodai Naraoka (21-17, 21-17) to advance to the next round, avenging his defeat to the same opponent at the Thomas Cup.
The Korean-Malaysian pairing of Choi Sol Gyu and Goh V Shem suffered an early exit after losing to France's world No. 4 pair Christo Popov and Toma Junior Popov (18-21, 15-21).
Meanwhile, world No. 8 pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani secured their place in the Round of 16 with a straight-sets victory over Singapore's Eng Keat Wesley Koh and Junsuke Kubo (21-17, 21-16).
