The opening day of the Korea Open, held at the Suwon Gymnasium in Suwon, began with seven Malaysian pairs in action.
World No. 19 women’s doubles pair Goh Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing committed numerous unforced errors, allowing the Taiwanese duo ranked just one spot above them to take control and deny the Malaysians a place in the next round, losing 13–21 11–21.
Meanwhile, in the men’s doubles, Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri delivered an impressive performance, cruising past Thailand’s World No. 42 pair to book their spot in the next round.
However, Malaysia’s World No. 45 pair Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong were forced to retire in the opening round due to injury against Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa-Kyohei Yamashita.
Earlier in the day, during the qualifying rounds, mixed doubles pair Loo Bing Kun-Goh Pei Kee, singles shuttler Teh Jin Hong, and men’s doubles duo Lau Yi Sheng-Lim Tze Jian all fell short, failing to advance to the next round.
