On the second day of the Paris 2024 Olympics, Malaysia’s badminton team continued to excel with significant victories securing spots in the quarter-finals for both men’s doubles and mixed doubles pairs.
Men's Doubles
Reigning bronze medalists and world No. 4 pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik triumphed over Canada’s Adam Dong-Nyl Yakura, winning 21-10 21-15 in a 40-minute Group A match. They are set to face the world number one pair, Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang of China, who earlier overcame Great Britain’s Ben Lane and Sean Vendy 21-18 13-21 21-14.
Mixed Doubles
Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei confirmed their quarter-final spot with another straight-sets victory against Vinson Chiu and Jennie Gai of the United States, winning 21-15 24-22 in their Group D match. This follows their previous day's win against Singapore’s Terry Hee-Jessica Tan, 23-21 21-12.
Men's Singles
Lee Zii Jia showcased his prowess by defeating world number 70 Viren Nettasinghe of Sri Lanka 21-14 21-12 in a Group G match.

Women's Doubles
Pearly Tan-M Thinaah revitalized their campaign by securing a dramatic win over Japan's two-time world champions Mayu Matsumoto-Wakana Nagahara. The Malaysian pair won 18-21 21-15 21-16 in a 73-minute showdown, marking their first victory in the highly-competitive Group A. This group also includes China's top-seeded pair Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan, as well as Indonesia's Apriyani Rahayu-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti. This win comes after Pearly and Thinaah's initial loss to top seeds Qing Chen-Yi Fan.
