Men's singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia saw his dream of clinching Olympic gold come to an end after falling to Thailand's reigning world champion, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, in the semi-finals in Paris.
Zii Jia was outplayed by an energized Kunlavut, losing 14-21 15-21 at the Adidas Arena in Port de la Chapelle on Sunday.
Despite the semi-final setback, Lee Zii Jia still has a shot at bringing home a medal. He will face either India's Lakshya Sen in the bronze medal playoff on Monday.
