The young Malaysia debutants faced a difficult campaign on their first day to qualify to the Round of 32. 

Eogene Ewe opened his campaign with a hard-fought victory over Denmark’s Ditlev Jæger Holm (13-21, 22-20, 21-16) before going down in a fierce three-games battle against China’s Zhu Xuan Chen (18-21, 22-20, 20-22).

Mixed doubles Liew Xun-Ho Lo Ee fell short against Supak Jomkoh-Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn from Thailand (16-21, 16-21).

Lim Ming Hong, ranked world 118 made a huge upset in defeating his fellow compatriot, World No. 65 Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin in straight-games (22-20, 21-13) but ultimately faced a setback against China’s Hu Zhe An (13-21, 10-21).

Cheam June Wei claimed his victory over Chinese Taipei's Liao Jhuo-Fu (21-17, 21-19) but failed to advance after losing to Korea’s Yoo Tae Bin (19-21, 17-21).

Kok Jing Hong also advanced past Chinese Taipei’s Ting Yen-Chen (21-17, 21-16) but was later defeated by Japan’s Minoru Koga after a thrilling encounter (11-21, 23-21, 10-21).

In Mixed Doubles, Datu Anif Isaac Datu Asrah-Clarissa San saw their journey end against India's Sathwik Reddy Kanapuram-Radhika Sharma (15-21, 17-21), as well as Muhammad Faiq Masawi-Lok Hong Quan loss to the first-seeded Christopher Grimley-Matthew Grimley from Scotland (19-21, 21-10, 16-21).

Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong is the only pair who qualified to the next stage after overcoming the Singaporean pair, Donovan Willard Wee and Howin Wong Jia Hao (21-23, 21-18, 21-17).

They are set to meet the eighth-seeded Kakeru Kumagai and Hiroki Nishi from Japan.
