Action continued on Day 3 of the PETRONAS Malaysia Junior International Challenge on 23 July at Stadium Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur.

The day’s action began with the men’s singles, where Kong Wei Xiang defeated compatriot Jin Khoo 21-15, 21-17 in 43 minutes to book his place in the quarter-finals.

Wei Xiang said he stayed composed throughout the match and trusted his own game.

“Everyone wants to win and compete against the best, but I just trusted my playing style and maintained a positive mindset,” said Wei Xiang.

Despite a brief power outage during the match, Wei Xiang remained focused and sealed victory to progress to the last eight.

“I have yet to win an international title, so I hope this tournament will be my breakthrough,” he added.

Wei Xiang also credited his speed and power as key strengths in his game.

Meanwhile, in the women’s doubles, Rachel Tan and Teh Xin Ying defeated fellow Malaysians Nurin Hazirah Haizal and Ong Xin Ru 21-11, 21-19 to advance to the quarter-finals.

Rachel and Xin Ying attributed their victory to strong communication and constant support throughout the match.

“Although our opponents closed the gap in the second game, we kept supporting each other and stayed focused on every point,” said Xin Ying.

Rachel echoed the importance of teamwork.

“Our coaches gave us advice, but once we stepped onto the court, we focused on communicating well and fighting for every point,” she said.

In the mixed doubles, M. Iqbal Yusuf and Leong Hwee Ling advanced after defeating fellow Malaysians 21-14, 21-11.

Meanwhile, in the women’s singles, Lee Mun defeated the Philippines’ Imari Dawn Jimenez 21-17, 21-19 to progress to the quarter-finals.
