National shuttlers dominated the final day of the PETRONAS Malaysia Junior International Challenge, capturing three of the five titles on offer.
In the men’s doubles, Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal Ahmad Redzuan and Isyraf Hafizin clinched the title after defeating fellow Malaysians Damien Ling and Irfan Shazmir 21-18, 21-10.
Waqqa and Isyraf expressed their gratitude to their coaches and parents for their unwavering support throughout the tournament.
“Although I lost in the mixed doubles final, I stayed positive and focused on giving my best in the men’s doubles,” said Waqqa.
Waqqa also thanked his partner, Isyraf, for his constant support throughout the tournament.
Both players said they are now looking forward to SUKMA, with Waqqa set to represent Terengganu and Isyraf competing for Sarawak.
In the mixed doubles, Irfan Shazmir and Nur Aina Maisarah Hatta captured their first international title after defeating fellow Malaysians Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal Ahmad and Teh Si Yan 21-12, 21-18.
In the men’s singles, Tiew Wei Jie defeated Thailand’s Punnatat Prempunpong 21-16, 21-11 in 47 minutes to claim the title.
Meanwhile, Rachel Tan and Teh Xin Ying finished runners-up in the women’s doubles after falling to Thailand’s Chantharat Marndakul and Pearploy Suttiwarayanon 15-21, 12-21.
