The mixed doubles department opened strongly with an all-BAM clash, where Tan Zhi Yang–Nicole Tan Pei En defeated Isyraf Hafizin–Aina Hatta 21–14 21–17. Meanwhile, Datu Anif–Tan Zhing Hui fell short against compatriots Wee Yee Tern–Clarissa San, losing 21–14 18–21 21–13.

In women’s singles, Shaneesa Shahidi delivered another consistent performance, overcoming Lee Kay Xin 8–21 21–18 21–12 to secure her place in the finals. She will meet Teoh Sue Mei, who edged out teammate Carine Tee in a tight match, 9–21 21–15 21–19.

The women’s doubles department will only have one representative in the final after Nicole Chau Xuan–Nicole Tan Pei En were defeated by Penang’s Lee Xin Jie–Low Yeen Yuan. The remaining finalists, Low Zi Yu–Aina Hatta, successfully booked their place after outlasting Gan Min Yee–Tan Zhing Hui in a thrilling three-game battle, 21–18 20–22 21–12.

“Actually, this was one of our best matches because I felt we played much better than before. We have learned how to control our gameplay and communicate more effectively on court. It was tough at the beginning since we had never been paired together, and our training schedules rarely matched. But gradually, we started to understand each other’s game,” said Zi Yu.

For Aina, the coaches also play a crucial role in helping them minimize mistakes especially during crucial timing.

“I think we needed to be more patient because we’ve been trying to end rallies too quickly, which gave free points to our opponents.

“One of the things that helped us today was applying exactly what the coaches advised as we made sure the gameplay and tactics we used on court were what they taught us, and we stayed focused even at critical points so the pressure did not overpower our spirit,” she explained.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, both players are nervous to against the seniors but determined to give their best and hope this tournament becomes a stepping stone for bigger achievements in the future.

Meanwhile, in the men’s doubles department, both pairs Pang Khai Zhe–Ungku Ameer Alif and Toh E Hern–Wee Yee Tern were defeated, leaving no representatives in tomorrow’s finals.
