The PETRONAS National Interstate Under-18 Mixed Team Championships 2026 concluded at Kelantan BA Hall with Kuala Lumpur making history by clinching their maiden title after an 11-year wait.

Kuala Lumpur produced a dominant display to defeat Kedah 4-2 in the final, with their only defeats coming in the first men’s singles and women’s singles matches.

Mixed doubles pair Tian Ci Yee and Weng Yan Lee gave Kuala Lumpur the perfect start by defeating Mohd Danish Haikal Mohd Noor and Nurin Zahirah Haizal 15-13, 15-11 in straight games.

In a 16-minute encounter, men’s singles player Cheng Yao Teh was unable to overcome Kieshen Sai Rao, going down 11-15, 9-15.

Women’s singles player Ng Yun Xi also fell to Lee Han Ning (9-15, 6-15).

However, Ong Xin Ru delivered a crucial point to revive Kuala Lumpur’s challenge after edging Lau Xin En 15-11, 14-16, 15-13 in a gripping one-hour contest.

Xin Ru shared how she remained composed throughout the match.

“Although my opponent is younger than me, I just focused on staying calm, taking my time and not putting too much pressure on myself,” she said, pleased to have contributed to Kuala Lumpur’s victory.

Meanwhile, Tian Hao Liew extended Kuala Lumpur’s lead after defeating Joshua Karunagaran 15-11, 15-4.

Men’s doubles pair Kai Xuan Liew and Meng Fong Wong then secured the decisive point for Kuala Lumpur with a hard-fought 15-8, 14-16, 15-11 victory over Kieshen Sai Rao and Mohd Danish Haikal Mohd Noor.

Kedah finished as runners-up, while Selangor claimed the bronze medal after a convincing 4-1 victory over two-time defending champions Penang.
