National top men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik captured their maiden Singapore Open title in style after staging a superb comeback to defeat South Korea’s world No. 10 pair Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae 15-21, 21-18, 21-19 in a gripping 65-minute final on Sunday.

The world No. 3 duo avenged their earlier defeat to the Koreans, who had ousted them in the semi-finals of the India Open back in January. Since then, Aaron-Wooi Yik have found formidable form, beginning with their historic triumph at the Badminton Asia Championships in April.

They carried that momentum into the Thailand Open, lifting the title just two weeks ago. Although they narrowly missed out on the PERODUA Malaysia Masters crown, falling to compatriots Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun in the final, the resilient pair bounced back brilliantly in Singapore to complete a memorable treble.

In doing so, Aaron-Wooi Yik also etched their names into the history books as the first Malaysian pair to win the Singapore Open in 17 years, since Mohd Fairuzizuan Tazari and Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif last triumphed in 2008.

This latest victory marks their third title of the season and sees them reach a fourth consecutive final—a remarkable streak only bettered in Malaysian badminton history by Cheah Soon Kit and Soo Beng Kiang, who reached seven straight finals in 1996.
