Malaysia’s junior badminton squad got off to a flying start at the Suhandinata Cup 2025 after cruising to a commanding 2-0 victory over Slovakia in their opening Group C encounter.
The young national team showcased dominance throughout the tie, winning all ten matches across both sets.
In the opening set, in the boys’ singles event, Lim Boon Le gave Malaysia the early lead with a 9-4 win against Alex Petrovic followed by girls’ singles Lim Zhi Sin’s solid 18-9 victory over Lea Kyselicova.
The girls’ doubles pair Low Zi Yu-Aqilah Ramdan extended the lead with a convincing 27-11 triumph over Lea Kyselicova and Eva Sarena, before Loh Zi Heng-Tan Zhi Yang added another point by defeating Andrej Macek-Andrej Suchy 36-17.
Malaysia sealed the first set when Loh Zi Heng-Aqilah Ramdan partnered again to overcome Andrej Suchy-Ella Eliaskova 45-23 in the mixed doubles.
The national junior continued to dominate in the second set, with Ayu Fu Sheng outclassing Andrej Suchy 9-2 in the boys’ singles and Oo Shan Zi, girls’ singles easing past Lea Kyselicova 18-4.
The pair of Low Zi Yu-Aina Hatta then claimed the girls’ doubles 27-8 against Ella Eliaskova-Charlotta Halova.
Damien Ling-Shazmir Shahrul also stormed to a 36-9 victory over David Antonio Kozinka-Andrej Suchy in the boys’ doubles.
The final point came from mixed doubles, Tan Zhi Yang-Nicole Tan, who sealed the 10-0 sweep with a 45-14 win against Alex Petrovic-Lea Kyselicova.
Malaysia will next take on Canada tomorrow (7 October, 7:00pm MYT).
