Malaysia's title bid ended with two runners-up finishes as Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, along with Aaron Chia and Aaron Tai, claimed silver medals at the Taipei Arena.

Top seeds Pearly and Thinaah were stunned by Japan's unseeded pair Sumire Nakade and Miyu Takahashi, falling 16-21, 18-21 in a 40-minute contest.

Pearly and Thinaah remain in search of their second title of the season after falling short against the reigning U.S. Open champions.

Meanwhile, Chia and Tai celebrated their first podium finish together, finishing runners-up in only their third tournament as a partnership.

They put up a spirited fight before going down 21-23, 19-21 to Indonesia's eighth seeds Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin in a closely contested final.

The Aarons will next compete at the Korea Masters in Asan, while Pearly and Thinaah will turn their focus to the BWF World Championships in New Delhi.
