Women’s singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei gave her career a significant lift despite narrowly missing out on creating history as the first Malaysian women’s singles player to capture a BWF World Tour SUPER 300 title.

The 26-year-old professional, currently ranked world No. 68, was forced to retire due to injury and extreme fatigue while trailing 8-21 3-6 in the final.

Jin Wei played 12 intense games over the four days leading up to the final, compared to just eight by the eventual champion from India, Devika Sihag, at the Nimibutr Stadium.

She walked away with the runner-up prize of USD 9,500 (RM37,435).

Despite the injury, Jin Wei etched her name into the record books as the first Malaysian woman to reach the final of a SUPER 300 event.

Notably, Jin Wei had to overcome a gruelling recovery process following the removal of part of her intestine in 2019, after undergoing a colectomy, before returning to elite competition.
