Soo Joo Ven did all he could to get the better of his Thai opponent, Khosit Phetpradab but it was just not enough. Joo Ven lost the match 14/21, 10/21 as Khosit was seen controlling the match with many sharp sideline smashes. Joo Ven who has played thrice against the Thai in his junior days was however disappointed with his match today.

“I could not perform my 100% today. My shots were all not working and I did many unforced errors especially in the second game. Khosit also played well and he was smart to take advantage of the errors I made which gave him the chance to have a big lead over me. I wished I could have displayed a better performance today, nevertheless, I am still glad that I managed to reach the finals. When I am back in Kuala Lumpur, I will surely work on my consistency and accuracy,” said Joo Ven.

Joo Ven, the 2013 Asian Junior runner-up had beaten Singapore’s top mens’ singles, Derek Wong and his senior, Iskandar Zulkarnain en route to the finals. The last time Joo Ven won an international title was back in 2012 where he defeated Khosit to win the Smiling Fish International Series.

In the other categories, Liang Xiangyu justified herself as the top seed in the womens' singles by cliching the title when she defeated Dinar Dyah Ayustine of Indonesia and womens' doubles was won by Indonesia pair, Della Destiara Haris/ Rosyita Eka Putri Sari. In the mens' doubles, both pairs from Chinese Taipei fought three games before Yu Lin Chia / Wu Hsiao Lin- defeated Lee Jhe-Huei/ Lee Yang, 17/21, 21/16, 21/18. As for the mixed doubles, Bodin Issara/ Savitree Amitrapai from Thailand were the winners against Hafiz Faisal/ Shella Devi Aulia of Indonesia, 21/13, 21/6.
