The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has announced the players selected to represent the country in both the mixed team and individual categories at the BWF World Junior Championships in China, scheduled from September 30 to October 13.

World Junior No. 1 and No. 2, Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing, will lead the boys' doubles category alongside SUKMA 2024 men’s doubles champions, Faiq Haziq Masawi and Lok Hong Quan. The reigning SUKMA women’s doubles champions, Dania Sofea Zaidi and Low Zi Yu, will spearhead the girls' challenge in the girls’ doubles category.

For the singles competition, BAM has selected Sng Wei Ming and Kong Zhou Swin, while Tan Zhi Yang and Loh Ziheng will join as the other boys' doubles pair. All the boys are 18 years old except for Fu Sheng, Zhi Yang, and Zi Heng, who are 17.

In the girls' singles category, with Siti Zulaikha Azmi not fully recovered from an achilles injury, 17-year-old Eng Ler Qi has been selected to join Ong Xin Yee, a semi-finalist in the Malaysia International Junior Challenge and the National Under-18 champion, alongside Oo Shan Zi and Lim Zhi Shin.

Several doubles pairs have also been selected, including National Under-18 champions Xin Yee-Carmen Ting, and Aqilah Maisarah Ramdan-Nicole Chau. Notably, the youngest doubles player is Zi Yu, who is just 14 years old.

Dania Sofea has also been selected to compete in the mixed doubles, where she will partner with Datu Anif Datu Asrah. The other mixed doubles pairs are Tan Zhi Yang-Aqilah Maisarah Ramdan, Loh Zi Heng-Clarissa San, and Wee Yee Tern-Nicole Tan.

BAM Acting President and Junior Task Force Chairman, Datuk V. Subramaniam, explained that the players chosen for the World Juniors represent the best in their respective categories.

"The BAM Junior Task Force has closely monitored these players over the last few months, both in training and during competitions. We discussed the selection in detail with the Junior Coaching Team headed by Jeffer Rosobin and arrived at this final list to represent our country. We’ve also included younger players like Zi Yu to provide her with valuable experience at the highest level,” Datuk Subramaniam said.

"As in previous editions, the competition will be tough and highly competitive. We hope our players will rise to the occasion and perform their best in the upcoming World Juniors in Nanchang, China."

For the record, the national junior team secured three bronze medals at the 2023 edition of the tournament in Spokane, Washington, in the mixed team event, boys' doubles (Aaron Tai-Bryan Goonting), and mixed doubles (Low Han Chen-Chong Jie Yu).
