Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing fought valiantly but it wasn’t to be as their fairy tale run at the Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open 2019 ended at the hands of Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping from China at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil today.
The world number 37 had performed beyond expectations, winning three games on the trot to reach the semi-finals but found the world number two pair and last year’s finalists too hot to handle, losing 13-21, 17-21 in the last four.

Mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing continued their gallant run at the Axiata Arena, defeating Tontowi Ahmad-Winny Oktavina Kandow to reach the semi-finals of the Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open 2019.
Having gone through a winless spell in 2019, the nation’s fourth ranked pair have now won three in a row at this tournament, making it a historic achievement for them on home soil.

Mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing battled back from a game down to beat India's Pranaav Jerry Chopra-Reddy N Sikki and book their spot in the quarter-finals of the Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open 2019 at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil today.
Malaysia's fourth-ranked pair lost the first game 15-21 but stormed back to win the next two sets 21-17, 21-13 and set up a last eight meeting with Indonesia’s Tontowi Ahmad-Winny Oktavina Kandow tomorrow.

National women’s number one, Goh Jin Wei will lead Malaysia’s challenge into the second round of the Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open 2019 when she passed her first test with flying colours today at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil.
The two-time world junior champion and Youth Olympic Games gold medallist, was not put under too much pressure, easily disposing of Thai shuttler, Nitchaon Jindapol, 21-13 21-12.
When asked about her performance today, Jin Wei said, “I enjoyed the game just now, was not too tired and was not too stressed.

Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing played the match of their lives to stun All England runners-up, Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino to march on to the second round of the mixed doubles of the Celcom Axiata Malaysian Open 2019 at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil.
Not given a ghost of a chance, the world No. 37 displayed an all-out attacking game with the towering Kian Meng providing good cover at the back, upsetting the world No. 3, 21-16, 21-15 in the first round today.
